Vista Shortcut Tweaks
I was playing around with some settings in Vista today trying to find anything ‘new’ to tell you guys about, I didn’t have too long so I didn’t find the ultimate tweak but I did find 2 useful shortcut tweaks.

Don’t Highlight New Programs
You will notice in your start menu under ‘all programs’ that any newly installed or upgraded software will be highlighted, now this just indicates the new programs but you can stop it highlighting.
Just copy these points;
Right click in your task bar
Select properties
Select the start menu tab
Click customize
Uncheck highlight newly installed programs
Click OK and apply
Done
Take Your Name off the Start Menu
You will notice in the Vista start menu that your name will be at the top of the right hand column, with it linking to your documents. If you want to remove your name then follow these points;

Remove Recent Programs on Start Menu
You will notice on your start menu that it shows a list of programs you have recently used or opened. This can be handy if you regularly use that program (ie word), but some people on public computers would rather not let everyone know what programs they have been using.

Move the Sidebar to a different Side of Your Screen
You know I always just thought that the sidebar in Vista always just stayed on the right hand side of your desktop, but you can also move it to the left hand side.
To move your sidebar just do the following;
Find the sidebar icon in your taskbar
Right click on the sidebar icon
Select properties

Lock the Taskbar
Here is a quick registry edit you can perform that will enable you to lock your taskbar that will prevent any user from moving or resizing it.
Go to this location
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Add this new DWORD
LockTaskbar
Set the value to 1
